FAQs
What therapy do I need?
All therapy works through the relationship you have with your therapist, which offers you the opportunity to work through your challenges and try out new ways of thinking, feeling and being.
Therapy can be short-term, typically between 6 and 15 sessions. This helps you identify coping strategies for an issue in your life and ways to work through it. It offers a space that is warm, empathic and non-judgemental.
Therapy can also be longer-term, open-ended therapy that allows you the time and space to delve deeper into the challenges affecting your life. It can help you identify unhelpful patterns and behaviours that often have roots in childhood and it can help you work towards healing your deepest wounds..
When should I see a therpaist?
If you are committed to making personal changes for greater life satisfaction, then you are ready to seek therapy. Many people believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems” in order for therapy to be appropriate. This is not the case, anyone can benefit from therapy. Some even choose to come in for insight only. Some see therapy as part of their lifestyle and well being.
What happens in the first session?
In a first session, the aim is usually to get to know each other, to start to understand what has been causing you difficulties and to reach a joint understanding of how to move forward – this may be to raise some challenges with a view to identify their source or just note areas you may wish to explore where you are decide if you would like explore them further or to leave for another time when you are ready.
How long with therapy take?
There is no specific time frame when working on personal development and growth. Depending on the type of changes that you are looking to make and the variety of issues that you are attempting to work on, therapy can last from a few sessions to much longer. Some find therapy to be extremely beneficial and choose to make it a long-term process.
